Background:
The oral history of Haudenasaunee (People of the Longhouse) says the Creator gave these people the Great White Pine, a symbol of the GREAT LAW OF PEACE. The Peacemaker and Hiawatha delivered this message of unity and peace that would bring the 5 Nations Confederacy together as one mind and one heart. The legacy of the Peacemaker and Hiawatha continues to live and grow in the hearts of Sara and Roger Smith, founders of the Roots 4 Peace Sharing Centre. In honour of this message, a Tree of Peace planting ceremony was dedicated to the coming faces in the year 2001. They wish to continue to spread this message of peace and create understanding among all people.
